About Me.

Prof. John Egbeazien Oshodi was born in Uromi, Edo State, Nigeria on June 8, 1959. He is the one of eight children and grew up in a law enforcement family with traditional roots. He completed his elementary and senior high school years in Nigeria. He came to United States of America and settled in Miami, Florida in 1982. He started his academic pursuit in April of 1982 at Miami-Dade Community College in Miami, Florida. He received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees (BS/MS) in Criminal Justice/Criminology from the Florida International University in 1983 and 1987 respectively. He attended the Carlos Albizu University (formally known as Caribbean Center for Advanced Studies, Miami Institute of Psychology) in Miami, Florida, where he received his Doctor of Philosophy (PH.D.) in Clinical/Forensic Psychology degree with utmost distinction in April of 1991.

Prof. Oshodi became a licensed clinical/forensic psychologist in the State of Florida in 1993. His first job was as a dish washer at the Denny’s restaurant in Perrine, Florida (US 1) while in school followed by his first professional job as a rehabilitation therapist at the Dade Correctional Institute (Prison) in Florida City and then became a Juvenile Probation Officer with the Department Of Health and Rehabilitation Services (HRS). In 1993 he established The Oshodi Foundation, P.A. Center for Psychological and Forensic Services and his work largely covers inner cities and urban areas of South Florida.

Prof. John Oshodi has taught at various universities and colleges including the Florida Memorial University, Florida International University, Broward College, Lynn University, and Nova Southeastern University.  In 2011, he introduced the State-of-the-Arts Forensic Psychology into Nigeria through the Nasarawa State University where he served in the Department of Psychology.  He also authored academic publications/creations, and public opinion write-ups on African issues.

He is a psychological consultant to various government agencies with a focus on adult/juvenile, disability, vocational and community mental health assessment and treatment. He has taught at various universities and colleges both internationally and in the United States and is the author of various books and articles, mostly in the area of the psychology of the black experience in continental Africa and America. He is a Fellow of the American College of Forensic Examiners (Psychology), a Diplomate of the American Board of Forensic Examiners (Psychology), a Diplomate of the American Board of Forensic Medicine (Psychology), and a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychological Specialties. He is currently married to Marilyn Lightbourn-Oshodi and has 4 children.

About Me.

Mairlyn Lightbourn was born in Sandy Point Abaco Bahamas, the oldest of seven children. The daughter of a well-known Fashion Designer, and Entrepreneur, Rachel Garcia Turnquest. Before her passing in 2012, she was selected as one of three legendary Bahamian Fashion Designers to participate in the MISS UNIVERSE 2009 Fashion Showcase.

Mairlyn learned that growth comes from constantly challenging herself with new experiences daily. She was drawn to social work as a career because she loves helping people. She began her career as a classification officer, parole officer, court officer, for the State of Florida. She entered the education arena as a certified educator for the Miami Dade County Public School, teaching and counseling special needs students.

​

Mairlyn is a highly experienced professional with numerous years of experience in social work, clinical, law enforcement, and counseling. She attended the Union Institute and University, Miami Florida from where she obtained her Bachelor of Social Work degree (1993), a Master of Social Work (1999) from Florida International University, Miami, Florida, a Master of

Science degree (2012) with a focus on Exceptional Student Education (ESE), and Reading Endorsement from St. Thomas University, Miami, Florida.

Mairlyn is grateful for her strong faith in Almighty God, the love of her husband Dr. John E. Oshodi and their combination of 5 children and 8 grandchildren who are living in Florida.
